Former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue will begin meeting with key U.S. senators on Monday ahead of a possible confirmation hearing on his nomination to be U.S. agriculture secretary in February.

President Donald Trump nominated the former two-time governor to lead the Department of Agriculture earlier this month. Perdue the same day met with Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, but has not spent time wooing other members of the committee. He is, as we told you earlier, largely a blank slate.

A spokeswoman for the Trump transition told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday that that is about to change.

“He’ll be doing meetings on Capitol Hill with Ag committee members starting on Monday,” the official, who was not authorized to speak on the record, said.

Perdue will meet with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday, she said.

No confirmation hearing has been scheduled yet but the Trump team hopes it happens by  Feb. 20.
