Moments after last night’s tete-a-tete between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich joined Sean Hannity on Fox News to break it all down. Spoiler alert: They thought Trump dominated. Watch it here:

Curiously, Gingrich thought Trump’s best moment came right near the end when the Republican businessman said:

“I was going to say something extremely rough to Hillary, to her family, and I said to myself, ‘I can’t do it. I just can’t do it. It’s inappropriate. It’s not nice.’ But she spent hundreds of millions of dollars on negative ads on me, many of which are absolutely untrue. They’re untrue. And they’re misrepresentations.”

Trump’s (retracted?) threat was in response a stinging rebuke from Clinton, where the Democrat essentially called Trump a sexist pig.

“That may have been the moment of the debate for Donald Trump, because unlike Hillary Clinton, for whom nothing is too mean or despicable, he was actually able to set a standard for being decent, and I’m very proud of him,” Gingrich told Hannity.

Overall, Gingrich said the debate “was an emormous, historic victory for Trump.”

Clearly this means Gingrich believes Trump met the goal the former speaker of the U.S. House laid out before the debate Monday:

But we do wonder about the phrasing that Gingrich chose above: “Adequately competent”?
