It’s not often a national-level politician gets involved in a state legislative race, but later this month it will happen here.

Former Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina will be in Sandy Springs on Sept. 22 to raise money for Meagan Hanson, the GOP nominee for state House District 80.

The invitation says the event will be at a private home on Peachtree Dunwoody Road from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Joining the host committee will set you back $2,600 but you can get in the door for a mere $250.

Hanson is running against Rep. Taylor Bennett, D-Brookhaven, who won a 2015 special election after Gov. Nathan Deal made then-Rep.  Mike Jacobs, R-Brookhaven a state court judge.

Democrats celebrated Bennett’s victory as a sign of a shifting electorate. Both sides havemade the race a priority.

Fiorina dropped out of the GOP race by the time Georgia voted March 1 and later endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who finished third here.
