Jewish judge demolishes opponent who criticized his religion

A Jewish judge running for re-election in DeKalb County pummeled an opponent who criticized his religion by a nearly 2-1 margin, winning another four-year term on the bench.dax-lopez_648307a

State Court Judge Dax Lopez was targeted by a mailer from attorney Roderick Bridges’ campaign that listed being “Christian” as a qualification for the job, with a thumbs-up sign under Bridges name – and thumbs-down sign for Lopez. (He also listed Jesus Christ as his top supporter, though later deleted it.)

Bridges later apologized for highlighting his religion, saying he wasn’t trying to offend anyone. But the tactic drew widespread criticism and international attention.

Lopez declared victory early this morning on Facebook, writing:

Mr. Bridges, your fifteen minutes are up. The voters in DeKalb County have overwhelmingly rejected your divisive tactics. Let this be a lesson to anyone who seeks elected office in DeKalb. The voters of DeKalb will no longer tolerate the politics of division.
