Johnny Isakson launches an early ad campaign

WASHINGTON — He does not have a Democratic opponent, his Republican primary foe drew 1 percent of the vote in a Senate primary last year and it is not even 2016 yet.

But U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., has already launched digital video ads. The ads, shown below, are on UGASports.com, Facebook, CNN.com, FoxNews.com, the Drudge Report, Breitbart, Pandora and — full disclosure — AJC.com.

The ads mention the word “conservative” over and over again, signaling that Team Isakson’s biggest concern at this point is a dark horse challenge from the right.

The main ad, below, declares that Isakson is the hardest-working senator and one of the most conservative. (Heritage Action rates Isakson the 22nd most conservative.)

The second ad lists things like “liberal judges” and Obamacare that Isakson opposes. It also has a football theme. ‘Tis the season:

Through September, Isakson had $5.4 million in his campaign bank account as of the end of September.

Democrats are still trying to mount a contender. Two Libertarians, Allen Buckley and Ted Metz, have expressed interest. The other Republican in the race is Stone Mountain minister and MARTA engineer Derrick Grayson, who operated on the fringes of the 2014 Senate campaign and delivered a killer Jimi Hendrix impression.
