Watch Nydia Tisdale’s video adventure at the Dawsonville GOP rally

By Jim Galloway

Nydia Tisdale, the citizen-journalist from Roswell who was roughed up last weekend for recording video at a Dawsonville GOP rally, fetched her confiscated camera on Friday.

Above is what she has posted. The last four minutes encompass her arrest.

She was not resisting, she was just asking him questions, he is a bully and using his badge to bully a woman for exercising her right to freedom.  This is disgusting as the teabillies continue to use excessive force to do what the good ole boy club wants to do.  Where is the KKK garb????? Probably in the back of their pickup trucks with their guns and knives.

She's not resisting.  Speaking is not resisting.  He never identified himself or displayed a badge.  His condescending, "Stop, all you gotta do is be still" sounds like a rapist, not a peace officer.

Does anyone else find it odd she is standing up filming on the front row, while everyone else is seated behind her?  I sense she wanted to cause a reaction.  Sometimes heckling does not involve making a sound.

Watching that video was awesomest when I ran audio of Lee Greenwood singing "Proud to be 'Murkan" gently in the background.  The drawling voices, the embodiment of integrity in those flappy white jowls, the courage demonstrated by Nathan Deal as he sat there while Deputy Meatslab was allowed to manhandle that woman....

Similar to the ethics committee being hushed up.The good thing is these thugs know they are wrong or why worry about shutting the truth out.And you can look at the results of their time in office and see what they are trying to hide; they don’t have the ability to turn this state around. They didn’t get in office for their intellect or track record they get elected because they are bullies.

Wow!!!! The GOP have  gone nuts and its prove a point that the GOP doesn't  respect women. I'm sure a few fellow white boys may have activated their cell phones to record and to later show the recorded meeting at their next klamily meeting.

Dangerous politicians!!

I don't get it.

if Burt's was privately owned property than they had the right to eject her for whatever reason, especially if she was interrupting the speaker

they do that all the time at comedy/spoken word shows.  some guy may be heckling the performer and private security will toss them.

why is this such an outrage.....explain

Re: Removal of journalist from the rally at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm on Saturday.

Sally Forest
Chairman, Gilmer County Republican Party

I am writing on behalf of the Gilmer County Republican Party, and as its County Chairman. I cannot believe that someone who was videotaping a public event was asked to stop first of all, and then removed in a manner which further discredited us as a party. This is just not acceptable, and I am so sorry that it happened. I believe that when we advertise and promote an event as open to all, and that everyone is welcome, (as we do with Gilmer County GOP meetings and events), that’s what we mean. If someone, journalist or voter or whoever, is making a video recording of it, then we’re not going to stop that. Why would we?

As most people with whom I work in this party already know, I am loathe to publicly criticize our party candidates or officials, and it is with sadness that I feel I have to make a statement now. But as one of our Executive Committee members noted, if we stay silent, we leave an impression that what happened is acceptable. It was not.

A final word to our fellow Republicans and conservatives as well as those whose votes we hope to get in November – we have no doubt lost votes and support because of this, but I would just ask that while you can justifiably criticize the actions of some in this instance, just know that there are many many more who are not happy with what happened and will have to work all the harder to gain back support and trust. Attorney General Olens was one of them on Saturday. We will learn from this. I am a firm believer in our party’s principles, and I will keep fighting for them.

Ladies, you see how Johnny Burt thinks wimmin should be treated. Buy your pumpkins at home. Trust me, your kids will be bored with the place anyway after the first 5 minutes and it isn't worth the drive.

As a woman, the last four minutes are hard to watch--a thuggish, low life  "public servant" bullying and hurting a woman, threatening her, arresting her for attending and filming a public event--just because its a GOP event. This demonstrates why people often think of Republicans as fascists--because they act this way. I hope they lose miserably in November and values and sanity can finally come to Georgia politics.

From http://www.dawsonnews.com/section/5/article/15490/

  • Initially, [Sheriff] Carlisle had said Wooten was performing security for the event in his official capacity as a sheriff's deputy.
  • After speaking with his counsel, Carlisle said he learned that officers working private security jobs are not considered "on duty."
2006 Georgia Code - 16-10-24

16-10-24. (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this Code section, a person who knowingly and willfully obstructs or hinders any law enforcement officer in the lawful discharge of his official duties is guilty of a misdemeanor. (b) Whoever knowingly and willfully resists, obstructs, or opposes any law enforcement officer, prison guard, correctional officer, probation supervisor, parole supervisor, or conservation ranger in the lawful discharge of his official duties by offering or doing violence to the person of such officer or legally authorized person is guilty of a felony and shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than five years.

So how is Ms. Tisdale then charged with felony obstruction when the officer is working a private security job and doing the bidding of a private property holder?

Taxpayer money provided for a 'Sherriff' to violate the First Amendment.  Watch the tape.  The reporter was invited on to the premises by Kathy Burt, the properties' owner.  The rally was publically advertised on Face Book by Governor Deal and the public and tax-payer supported public officials were invited.  The laughable sequence of overweight, aging white males with thick southern accents talking about 'puking' appears to be a continuation of their high school and southern fraternity boy behavior and uneducated language.  No wonder they do not want anyone to see this.  What a collection of incompetents.  An embarrassment for Georgia and a continued violation of the U.S. Constitution by these neo-Confederates.  I am surprised there were no gray cavalry uniforms or stars and bars being opening displayed.  Also, 'guns everywhere'?  I guess that belly blubber could have been hiding some of them.  Maybe some of the attendees can fill us in on the rest of the campaign speeches and Ms. Tisdale's condition. A true heroine.

Ok tiny dog, I'll ask you here:

What part of Georgia abuts Albuquerque?

What inflammatory questions was the Citizen at the PUBLIC forum of Georgia Elected Officials asking?

What Georgia Political Party is known as NOW?

What dose this fauxnewz attempt at pot-stirring have to do with any issues in the State of Georgia?

Are you so committed to preserving the confederate mentality that you will make such a pathetic reach?

@Peachs @mrob That is a complete and total fabrication.  At no time has Dawson County had any signs telling anybody of any color not to let the sun set on them.  As for your other infantile and imbecilic remarks, I do have to laugh while blessing your poor little heart.

@Bernie31 again, If its private property you the owner can toss whomever you want and for whatever reason.  whether or not she was interrupting is irrelevant as far as I see.

I am sure they did not want her there, as many politicians at these type of political pep rallies fear a George Allen moment (google Makaka??)

not saying they SHOULD Have tossed her, and especially not in such a manner. but as to the tossing her in and of itself, whats the big deal?

that is well within their rights.

Bernie thank you for the somewhat bizarre cultural history lesson, but I think some of you put way too much imagination into that cultural phenomenon.  This isn't the 1950s anymore.  half of Atlanta are either foreigners or transplants from up north, and people move around so much today I would venture to guess that 1/4 atlantans are actually born and bred
