Text of Nathan Deal aide’s letter urging GOP lawmakers to pony up

By Greg Bluestein

Our colleague James Salzer got ahold of a letter sent by Gov. Nathan Deal’s campaign aide urging Republican lawmakers to donate to the governor’s re-election bid. The note said he would be “returning the favor” for those who support him. You can find his story here.

Deal spokesman Brian Robinson told Salzer that the aide who wrote the letter, David Werner, sent a second letter clarifying that the pledge referred to fundraising efforts over the next four years.

Here’s the full text of Werner’s original dispatch, sent on Monday:

All:

We enjoyed seeing many of you in Macon on Saturday morning. Thank you for welcoming the Governor to your meeting and all the support you’ve shown.

The question was asked where y’all should go for information on issues. The answer is me. Please let me know if you have any questions on any issue. I will get the information back to you as soon as possible. I will be sending out talking points on a myriad of issues as we close in on November 4th. If you have any specific requests, please let me know.

Finally, I’m sure you noticed a major theme of the Governor’s speech: campaign contributions. We really do need and would greatly appreciate your support. As the Governor said, we plan to spend the next four years returning the favor for those that have been supportive of us.

See you on the campaign trail.

David R. Werner

The note said he would be “returning the favor” for those who support him.  #weknownathan committed pay-to-play by sending this letter which is a federal corruption charge.  I would play golf all day too when the embicile being investigated is making your case for you.  That's what we call work smart not hard.

Doesn't shady get to keep the left over campaign funds when he loses?

That would make it obvious why the last minute shake-down is happening (and anyway, who would want to return to being a 'street lawyer'?)

" letter sent by Gov. Nathan Deal’s campaign aide urging Republican lawmakers to donate to the governor’s re-election bid. The note said he would be “returning the favor” for those who support him"

I have decided that Nathan Deal is no not a megalomaniac but an imbecile which is a medical category of people with moderate to severe intellectual disability, as well as a type of criminal. The term arises from the Latin word imbecillus, meaning weak, or weak-minded. It includes people with an IQ of 21–50, between "moron" (IQ of 51–70) and "idiot" (IQ of 0–20).~~~Wikipedia  Anytime a politician that is currently under investigation by federal authorities (October, 2013) for ethics violations sends a letter such as this there's definitely something mental going on.

The Governor and his staff appear to be narrow-minded and heavily insulated by Republican politics if they think that supporters of the Dream Act must all be undocumented immigrants as well.  That's like saying that if I'm against cancer, I must have had it.  Definitely not empathetic people.

@StraightNoChaser And what do you think it is when the governor allows money to be spent or a legislators friend on a board or a blue ribbon commission? Dang you are dumb when it comes to politics.

@td1234 @StraightNoChaser Ok genius if the first draft was perfectly legal why was a second draft sent out clarifying what the governor's criminal intent was in the first letter?  From all appearances your governor lawyer d up and was reminded of the current federal investigation into corruption charges he and his crew are facing .td1234 why do you get so mad and call names when you are presented with facts.  Apparently you did not read the article which is not new for you.  Can you read?

@Retired-Soldier @StraightNoChaser The note said he would be “returning the favor” for those who support him"  My accomplishment is bigger, I have managed to stay out of prison which is something that #weknownathan is headed to.  He will soon be a felon and I am not. He and Rick Perry will be cell mates.

Getting YOUR vote doesn't require a rocket-science-level plan, buddy. Just sayin'.

@Retired-Soldier @historywriter Most certainly.  Anybody who can't understand that every American has the right to stand for what they believe in, no matter their background, has a limited understanding of what being an American is.  And, if they are in a position of power, that should be a worry.

@StraightNoChaser You are going to get fired from your government job if you do not stay off these blogs.

Retired-Soldier

@historywriter @Retired-Soldier  So only democrats have an understanding what being an American is? Wow that is a brash comment. To think after serving my country and fighting for it I don't know what being an American is. Thanks for letting me know.

@td1234 @StraightNoChaser #weknownathin is going to be fired off his and locked up.  If I do get fired #weknow I can get another one I won't be a felon.

I don't think that's what historywriter was saying at all. I think you want that to be the case, so you can spit on it, but he's saying that one does not have to BE green or gay or polka-dotted to stand up for the rights of people who are green or gay or polka-dotted, because standing up for rights is an AMERICAN thing, unlike being bigoted and snarky, which is more of a cowardly thing. Don't you agree?

@Retired-Soldier @historywriter Democrats have a bigger tent. We aren't the party of white men as exclusively as the Republicans. So yes, we are more America the Melting Pot.

@Retired-Soldier Have you noticed how we have a few new screen names full of progressive piss and vinegar show up the past couple weeks?

I wonder if it is an outside group or the Carter campaign themselves that is paying them?

@NWGAL The Republican tent is wide open to anyone that believes in hard work and personal responsibility.

COOL! I like that.  But... are you saying that only Republicans stand up for what is right? Certainly you're not saying THAT, are you?

@Retired-Soldier @td1234 But wait. Gov Deal is taking credit for the economy in this state...ya know No 1 for businesses! Unemployment rate ok and due to usual summer peak!

How about you and td wrapping your brain around these new bloggers are prospective voters and who may be getting involved and LEARNING about the candidates? They can make observations and comments based on what they process. Why does that scare you that people have the ability and right to read, digest, and formulate opinions...just like you. Fortunately they aren't the same as your opinions!

So Deal is taking credit for having the second worse highest unemployment rate in the country, only better than Mississippi. That is what you get when you have a right to work, corrupt pay to play state.

@RoadScholar Nope. They are way to well polished in talking points to be prospects. Several have admitted to being advocates. They are paid political operatives that will shortly disappear after election day and the money runs out.

@Retired-Soldier @StraightNoChaser If I cared I would have refrained so evidently I don't.  I would not work for anyone who supports a criminal governor I love my freedom to much and cherish my clean criminal record.  Someone with your beliefs lacks integrity and would do anything to make a buck.

@StraightNoChaser @Retired-Soldier  If you look at my posts I don't support him, I am just tired of the silly comments made on here. Support all the good things in Carter. I haven't decided who I will vote for governor.

@Retired-Soldier @StraightNoChaser I am in no way attacking your service to this country, I come from a military family.  I will however defend my right to free speech if the tea party is allowed to march around the capital with displays of hatred and bigotry then I can say what I want when I want to on the net without having my resume attacked for doing so, especially when it's true. Why the hell does it matter what I have accomplished and what my background is if you were not attacking me.  The war is over sir so you can stand down now.  Thanks for your service.

@Retired-Soldier @StraightNoChaser My bad so why the hell are you treading on me.  I am tired of the hate Obama and vote for the other guy message that I constantly see and to top it off the birthers are at the Capital this weekend with their illegal president signs.

No, Retired-Solder, now YOU are wrong. I don't know which woman you pay to do whatever things I don't want to know about, but I assure you, it isn't me.  Please try to refrain from posting that kind of sm-ut on this nice forum. Thanks.

@Retired-Soldier

Again,..... which part do YOU control?  What office do you hold? What decisions do YOU make?  Please tell me you're not so gullible as to think Gov. Shady or your ALEC-owned puppet snakes in the General Assembly give a single gosh darn what YOU want! (Bless your heart.) Unless you are one such snake, donate HEAVILY to said snakes, or hold another office, you don't control *bleep!*

StraightNoChaser

@Retired-Soldier @StraightNoChaser A Governor hinting at "pay-to-play" in his letter will not bring credit to the office but I can guarantee you he will bring the feds with cuffs in hand.

@Retired-Soldier

Oh, I know I don't control anything in this state. Which is funny sometimes, when deluded right-wing snake-flag numbskulls start yammering to me about how I"m what's wrong with this country. They're really just frustrated because they never learned how to take personal responsibility and confront their actual paid "representatives."

@GaBlue Every time you receive that welfare check you get a check from a good tax paying conservative.
