Michelle Nunn gets star power help from singer Carole King

By Greg Bluestein

Democrat Michelle Nunn’s Senate campaign is getting a boost from Carole King.

The Nunn camp tells us that the Grammy award winning singer and songwriter is in town to do some charity work with the candidate and later host a fundraiser on her behalf. It’s the latest stop on King’s Democratic circuit – earlier she stumped for Sen. Kay Hagan’s re-election campaign in North Carolina.

Her arrival has also attracted attention from Republicans, who eagerly note King’s background as an environmental activist. One sent along this video offering a taste of her views on climate change:

WOW! Carol King the Great SONGSTRESS for the 60's & &70's. the same one who supported the Civil Rights movement and Equality for ALL of America's Women. She has come out to support None other than Michelle Nunn for the U.S. Senate over a Ill tempered Millionaire Republican whose whole goal is to STUFF his own pockets and accounts and then walk away with a Lifetime WELFARE BENEFIT from the American People and do nothing for them.

You Republicans should feel like a POS!  For if there is a NEED for Carol King to come forth in support. This is a Very Loud signal you ALL must be a BUNCH of Evil BACKAASSWARDS ingorant good for nuthin SOB's that need to be EXPOSED!

The following post is from td1234

"I guess you do not read my post often. I am self employed and own several companies. It is the middle of the month so 20 plus rental houses need little attention right now. My IT business is in the monitoring systems and answering HD type calls mode at the moment and the lawn business is run by a very good manager.

The lawn business was put forth by a very progressive blogger a few years ago that kept attempting to state that my job was cutting grass. I wish I could remember who it was so that I could thank him/her for giving me the idea that is paying my monthly house note and will pay for the cruise I will be going on in a few weeks from now."

Can we please get past the double standards?  If it's okay for out-of-staters, politicians and otherwise, to come to GA to support GOP, why does the same thing for Dems get such hate-filled comments?  As a registered Republican, I am sick of all the meanness, lack of ethics, and slime.  That double-standard mindset is a big part of what's wrong with our country.  Personally, I would like to see financial donors and campaigners limited to only people who can actually cast a vote for any given candidate. We have much to accomplish to get our state and country back on track.  Please stop this stupid nonsense!

Is it just me or why does anyone think that because a celebrity or an outsider supports a candidate, Georgians should support that candidate?  I don't pay attention to any of that and in fact think it rather funny.  Also, polls are based on such a small sampling, they are never accurate and do not count either.  Only the ballot box counts.

What sort of villain could fail to see Carole King's call for clean energy as anything but helpful and positive?

Environmental activist. Yeah, that's really such a crime. Trying to protect the planet that sustains us and actually be a good steward. The GOP must hate her.

Dang they are pulling out far left tree hugging enviro wackos singers and bringing them to GA to raise money for Mary-Michelle-Martin-Nunn.

I am sure that is going to make all the people outside the metro area come out and vote for Nunn.

I hope this does not mean that the Georgia GOP will be pulling out that hate speech filled Ken Nugent.  Please tell me it's not so.....

Wow, Carole King. I'm impressed that she came down to help Hagan and Nunn.

Thanks for sharing her video. That's a beautiful video with a simple, compelling message.

Speaking of climate change, did you see the recent news that many of the world's leading PR firms will no longer take work for clients who are climate change deniers?

"Now a number of the top 25 global PR firms have told the Guardian they will not represent clients who deny man-made climate change, or take campaigns seeking to block regulations limiting carbon pollution."

"The UK-based WPP, the world’s largest advertising firm by revenue and parent company of Burson Marsteller and Oglivy Public Relations, said taking on a client or campaign disputing climate change would violate company guidelines."

“'We ensure that our own work complies with local laws, marketing codes and our own code of business conduct. These prevent advertising that is intended to mislead and the denial of climate change would fall into this category,' the company said."

An entertainer's endorsement would not affect my vote, either positively or negatively. It is irrelevant to me.

Bernie, keep telling truth as you see it, even it some are too weak-minded to leave your words posted. I read all of your thoughts over the weekend before they were taken down. You make a lot more sense than some who have perfect grammar.  (Btw, "fancy pants" was a perfect description of one who had insulted your intellect. Your accurate description of that person needed to be stated.  ;-) )

I think you have a fair point. I wouldn't support Michelle Nunn just because Carole King came down to help her. But I do like Carole King, and if she has something to say, I'll listen to her. I'll give her an audience, but then her ideas will have to stand on their own merit.

I completely agree with you on polls. The statistical methodology behind polls is sound, but there are two inherent problems with polls:

(1) The pollster has to try and identify each respondent in terms of demographics (e.g., gender, party affiliation, political leaning, etc) and then weight the survey responses to match expected turnout demographics. I think even well-meaning pollsters mess this up a lot.

(2) Many pollsters are partisan and use polls to try and boost a candidate. They spin the results the way they want.

The pure statistical methodology introduces a margin of error of about 4%, but demographic matching can easily add another 15% error. Pollster spin can add another 5% or more. By this time, we're talking about a potential miss of about 20%.

So while I'm interested in poll results, I take them with a grain of salt. You're right, the only poll that counts is the ballot box.

The celebrity has a track record usually. But their message is most important. You or I do not have the name identification most top celebrity's have; that gets your foot in the door!

@Aboli It's just a name what's your excuse for hitting the bottle so early?  Sane black people don't listen to the creep, that would be me, so I got his name mixed up.  What do you want to do make a federal case out of it?  My bad Nathan Deal already has one pending, I wonder if Ken Nugent handles criminal cases.
