Nathan Deal’s office targeted with #weknownathan complaint

By Greg Bluestein

The social media fundraising campaign this week by Gov. Nathan Deal’s boosters attracted plenty of attention by Democrats who hijacked the message for their own. Now it has also earned a call for an internal investigation.

Clint Murphy, a former GOP operative turned critic of his party, filed a request with the Office of Inspector General on Friday to look into the activities of Sasha Dlugolenski, a press aide who works for Deal’s government office.

In the complaint, Murphy claims that Dlugolenski violated a state ban on political activity during work time through a series of tweets she sent boosting her boss. The tweets include a response to the #weknownathan attacks she sent during working hours. (The Deal camp didn’t start the hashtag, it should be noted, but adopted it after taking fire from Democratic partisans on social media.)

Murphy called for state investigators to launch a “full, complete and thorough independent review and investigation of this matter.”

Deal spokesman Brian Robinson said the message Dlugolenski sent during office hours were “issues-based and completely appropriate.” He added:

“How desperate for attention and full of blind rage do you have to be to file a complaint against a 24-year-old staffer for saying nice things about her boss on her personal Twitter account? This is more about one political exile’s relevancy crisis than about benign tweets.”

Folks, this Friday has become a clearinghouse for complaints. Earlier today, an ex-GOP lawmaker filed one against Democrat Jason Carter’s gubernatorial campaign; he responded by threatening to return fire.

I hear from friends who used to live there that in there beautiful country of El Salvador , there is someone on every corner trying to  keep law and order by holding a machine gun.   We need to look in our hearts and remember this country is part of the world that belongs to everyone and everyone has a fundamental human right to try to keep  children safe.

I hope Atlantans will open their hearts, wallets and doors to these children.   The language barrier may be the last minority and group that is truly discriminated against.   I bet there are several rooms open in the governor's mansion.  Let's lead the way in America in showing true human kindness towards this little children who have done no wrong towards anyone. I look forward to working with them in the school system and helping them make a better life for themselves.  Mary Chappell

Attn: Brian Robinson, the staffer is being paid by Georgia tax-payers and she should NOT be campaigning on State time !!!  Are you really that arrogant ?  You answer the charges by attacking the person that filed it and that is uncalled for. He has a valid complaint but your arrogance doesn't allow you to see that..

We do not want or need any more people crossing our borders. This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard letting the kids come here. They need to be sent back home. God have mercy what in the heck is this country coming to. Might have something to do with our idiot president no doubt. There will be lots of protesters I am afraid if they let these kids stay.America is so tired of the crap obama is pushing down our throats. While you are at it send this to our stupid President. If you are responsible for part of this you need a swift kick in the butt too. I Thank Nathan Deal for fighting for us Americans. You will surely get my vote.

A little too much complaining about everything people do, but Deal brought this mess on himself. He can't overcome the fact that he has serious ethics issues to face so he tries to distract from his problems by creating fake ones against Carter and so now we have this back and forth thing. It does nothing to help the state of Georgia, but that is never what the Raw Deal was about anyway.

I would hate to know my life was so sad that all I had to do was make petty attacks in people.I once had respect for Murphy but now I just feel sorry for him .

Good.

Too bad, but Republicans would rather play these games since they know they can't win on the issues.

So Dems need to fight back.

I'm sure she'll probably say she was on her own time.  But was she using a State-owned device when she did this?

@mwill17669

Wow - too ignorant to see the hypocrisy of your own words -

Your plea for "God have mercy"...is apparently not for the kids, I guess, but, rather, for YOU...

Yup...I guess your "comfort zone" is getting infringed on. God have mercy......

A law was passed late in GW Bush's term called the "William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008." It passed with unanimous votes in Congress, including Nathan Deal, who was in Congress at the time. It requires the government to take extra steps before sending illegal immigrant children back if they're from countries other than Mexico and Canada.

Of course nobody knew this situation with children from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras would happen, but now that it has, the government still has to do what the law says.

This isn't the President's fault. He didn't introduce or sign the law. But his administration has to abide by it.

If Deal doesn't like it, he should ask the Georgia congressional delegation to vote for legislation to update the law and fund additional resources to handle the backlog.

@NOlongerRepublican Deal voted for the law when he was in Congress, I believe.  Now who's pandering and playing politics and using children.  #WeknowNathan only cares about Nathan....
