Michelle Nunn rakes in $3.45 million in second quarter

By Daniel Malloy

WASHINGTON – Democrat Michelle Nunn raised $3.45 million in the second quarter of this year, a whopping figure that likely will rank among the best in the country.

Nunn’s outside fundraising from April, May and June is more than Jack Kingston and David Perdue combined — and the two Republican runoff participants are allowed to collect an extra maximum $2,600 in runoff funds from top contributors. They also will burn much of their sums ahead of the July 22 vote.

The Nunn campaign did not say how much it spent or how much cash it had on hand as of June 30, ahead of formally filing its Federal Election Commission report. Nunn had already reported raising $736,000 in April ahead of the primary, so the report will show about $2.7 million for May and June.

Nunn has now raised $9.3 million since entering the race a year ago. By comparison, Kingston has raised $5.2 million, and Perdue has raised $2.6 million and added $3.1 million of his own money.

Nunn has had the benefit of being her party’s consensus choice since the get-go, a relative breeze of a primary and a national fundraising base that the Republicans, so far, can only dream of — and try to turn into a liability. But plenty of GOP money will come off the sidelines once the party picks a candidate, not to mention an expected Super PAC deluge.

Here’s the Nunn campaign’s full press release:

ATLANTA – Michelle Nunn, former CEO of the Points of Light Foundation and candidate for U.S. Senate, announced today that her campaign has raised over $3.45 million in the second quarter and over $9.3 million since she got into the Georgia Senate race under a year ago.

More than 39,000 people have lent their financial support to Michelle’s campaign since she entered the race – more than three-quarters of whom have given $100 or less. She raised $300,000 more in the third quarter than both her opponents combined. Her campaign has collected donations from every county in Georgia. Supporters aren’t just investing dollars – they are investing their time and know-how too. Over 6,000 Georgians have participated in the campaign’s grassroots mobilization efforts, including attending trainings, phone banking, canvassing, and other activities to communicate Nunn’s message.

” Our campaign continues to gain momentum because Georgians are tired of what’s going on in Washington, and they are ready for collaborative and common sense leadership. When I talk to individuals across the state, they say they want our political leaders to stop fighting all the time and start working together to tackle the challenges that face our nation. We need leaders who will work across party lines to grow our economy and get people back to work by creating jobs,” Nunn said.

Over the last three months, Nunn has traveled across the state meeting with Georgians and highlighting all the ways Washington could learn from Georgia. In May, Nunn rallied 300 volunteers ahead of her May 21 primary to makeover a school in southeast Atlanta. In June, Nunn and her family traveled on the What Washington Can Learn From Georgia: Working Together, Creating Results tour, visiting Georgia towns and highlighting all the ways folks in Georgia are working across differences to get things done.

One way to tell Republicans know they're losing this race:  the level of name calling.   No substantive attacks.  just name calling.

Some classy examples from the Right:

"Her husband stays at home probably downloading porn all day???"

"This woman is a community organizer."

"another scum democrat "

"What a lightweight, she reminds me of Jane Fonda, famous name., left wing looney and limousine liberal. "

I bet most of this money comes from out of state. This woman is a community organizer. We don't need another of those in Washington.

And how pray tell with her income did she only pay16% in taxes. We pay close to 30% with 1/ 3 as much income.

Just another scum democrat with no experience, never had a "real" job, a socialist running totally on her father's name! You left wing socialist idiots gave us the same thing now in the White House! Please do not vote!

"She'll make a great Senator."

Based upon what exactly???  That she has no position on Obamacare???  She makes over $300k but has convinced her GA liberal minions that she is one of them??? She sends her kids to private school???  Her husband stays at home probably downloading porn all day???

What a waste of money but I hand it to the GA libs who are blindly convinced that more money will help them win the election.

but I get a Facebook popup every day from Mary Martin, n/k/a Michelle Nunn, about "getting big money out of politics", and I correctly assumed she meant other than her big money union and socialist backers. What a lightweight, she reminds me of Jane Fonda, famous name., left wing looney and limousine liberal. She will lose in the Fall

There's no doubt that Sam's daughter will lose this election in a huge way after WE THE PEOPLE quickly learn that she's simply not qualified for the job. Of course then there's the left which will complain that she got railroaded in the election. Expect a lot of bed-wetting coming from the liberals once this general election is under way and the Republican widens the gap putting Sam's daughter at around 25%. The Democrat Party continues to remain clueless and waste money by throwing dollars at unqualified candidates. So Big Deal that Mrs. Nunn worked for a few minutes for the honorable Pres George HW Bush. Mr. Bush wants nothing to do with her? Did anyone notice that FACT? Gimme a break. Mrs. Nunn is trying to show that she is independent, but she looks like she would be in bed with Hairy Read -- who would place strings on her making Mrs. Nunn his newest puppet......I cannot wait to see Sam's daughter go down in flames with a very early concession speech on Election Night this fall.

Amen, Bill

Why would Democrats need to raise money, other than to "buy an election"?  (Because when anyone else does the exact same thing, that's what you liberals call it.)

If this seems like overposting, I generally publish when I've been assaulted, or when my privacy is ignored, or when my cats cry out in pain by some action of government. I've been assaulted thousands of times over the past decade now, I'm sure that estimate is accurate....the other day one of my cats was bleeding, hair missing from its back, and two of them actually have scabs on their back as a result of being shot with energy weaponry. According to one report this results from my publication of Ronald Reagan quotes and biographical facts, indisputable and in fact from wikipedia. The federal government of course has all the power in the world to stop it.  My tooth was knocked out in increments, over a 2 year span by energy weaponry assaults, for stating and proving the crimes committed by the federal government.

Typically operating through puppets--including puppets in the judiciary--the right wing has for decades been committing crimes and trying to classify them to cover them up, a move explicitly forbidden by the Code of Federal Regulations. The right has accomplished its political objectives by presenting a fraction of the evidence to judicial officials who, having seen the pattern dozens of times before, could not help but realize that they were being presented with incomplete and inaccurate information.

With either the willfully blind approval or the willful ignorance of the judiciary the right has killed & stolen several of my pets and routinely shoots energy weaponry at me and my pets. Recent harm to animals include: two kittens from a pregnant stray i took in were killed a few months ago. The remaining two, just 3 months old, shake their head as government operatives shoot them with energy weaponry. They shot the eye out or removed the eye of a large really good natured stray at the port, hobbled another cat at the port, shooting it with energy weaponry, and for years routinely killed and left dead animals in my path.

A few years ago one of them threatened 'we'll just kill a cat every so often', in so many words. This has continued despite my calls to the police, the FBI, Congress, and my petitions in court. In the usual case, it appears that the right goes to a judicial crony for a ruling permitting them to harm animals to retaliate against me for my free speech. The federal government, the right wing in particular, interfered with my personal life and economic options for 3 decades, so their solution to my noting it is to kill animals. Makes perfect sense right? It does if you're a sociopathic criminal, criminally stupid, and hawkish. Invariably their lies are exposed and the wrongfulness of the harm is clear to everyone, though not until the animals have been maimed or killed. There is really only one solution, and that's to disempower them politically and to impeach them.

If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth, right? the Democrats' great accomplishment is producing the political equivalent of a Rodney King video, clearly demonstrating the lies of the right, the right Hilary Clinton correctly identified as a vast conspiracy. Confirm by examining Central District of California Cases, 01-4340, 03-9097, 08-5515, 10-5193, US Tax Court 12000-07L --though I think you want to view my US Tax Court Appeal to the 9th Circuit for a good account of their day to day assaults, a few month time slice indicative of a decade of assault, and more recently 9th Circuit case 11-56043.

Won't be getting my vote.  This is an exercise in futility as far as I'm concerned.  This state doesn't need another Democrat in the Senate representing us by any means.

And the odds that Jim G wouldn't have insisted on the "out of state contributions" info, if this was a Republican candidate.....oh, about ZERO.  All we'd hear about was the "evil billionaires" trying to control GA.

But of course, since this is one of the favored two (Carter of course being the other) absolutely no actual data as to where this money came from.  I love being able to point to such easy examples of the AJC bias like this.  Helps the normal folks see through the B.S.

I am excited she is doing well. I hope Georgians are tired of all the fighting in Washington and are ready for a pragmatic leader to work to actually get things done instead of just create sound bites to get re-elected. I really think Ms. Nunn needs to take a good portion of her war chest and dedicate it to voter registration and voter turn out. The majority of Georgians are not extremists, but the extremists vote a lot more than those in the middle. So if she can get those who don't subscribe to the crazy right-wing religious ideology to the polls she can win. That is where her challenge lies. That and overcoming all those old Georgians who still won't vote for a woman.

Wow! Reading the news articles from a few small town newspapers around Georgia where she visited, I had a feeling Nunn was doing well, but this is much better than I expected.

The fundraising is impressive , but the number of contributors, the fact that she has received support from every county (!) and has over 6,000 Georgians participating in grass roots mobilization is amazing.

Well done!

The real race doesn't began until July 23rd. I can assure you the Republicans will be there. It won't matter how many below the belt articles the AJC publishes. And, if the trend continues, there will be many.

Her requests for money are always upbeat and quiet in tone. If she maintains this quality in the Senate, she will be effective there as well.

@concernedoldtimer Hmm....CEO of a national non-profit started by a former president  vs.  a former boss of a dollar store that sells plastic water guns and off-brand paper towels and picture frames.

I know which I'd choose.

Even as a Republican, I have warmed to Michelle Nunn's moderate, insightful, let's get things done approach.

The Huffington Post merely shows the results of other people's polls. So it shares information gleaned from many sources including Fox News. EdU's insistence that the results are from a liberal site are disingenuous as are many of his posts.

@LHardingDawg So his ethics is "below the belt'? You are either in denial, in justification, stupid or just plain unethical. You and Deal wouldn't know ethics if it hit you in your face!

@LHardingDawg  "Below the belt" == "Way over your head" in your case.

Sorry, but not liking a truthful article does not make it slant right or left.

@NWGAL  She'll make a great Senator.

I wasn't sure about her at first - given that politics is such a nasty game - would she be able to hold her own?  ( a little bit sexist I guess?)

But I think now that her message of grace and optimism might just be what is needed to win.

Contractor1

Message of grace and optimism??? I'm sorry, but isn't that the same exact speech we get from everyone running for political office? None of them are any different than the other. That's why nothing will change until the cupboard is swiped clean and you get true red blooded Americans in office that want the beat for this country and not simply to have a pedestal to stand on and be admired.

RadicalRuralDem

@Contractor1 In other words, absolute idiots that haven't the faintest clue about the basic functions of government?
