Cops will screen Peachtree Road Race for bombs, but not guns

By Jim Galloway

This message from the Atlanta Police Department was issued this afternoon by spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy, just to clarify things:

As part of the Atlanta Police Department’s overall security plan for the Peachtree Road Race, APD plans to secure the finish line. People entering Piedmont Park will be screened for bombs or explosive devices, but no persons in possession of weapons and/or long guns will be denied entry.

Perhaps this could have been done before Georgia’s new gun law went into effect on Tuesday, but the case is more so now.

As one fellow told us, if you want to run the entire race with an AK-47 at port arms tomorrow, have at it. You’re good.

Hat tip to Creative Loafing on this, by the way.

Geez, am I glad to hear that! I think it's really important to be packing at the race...heck, sure hope most of the runners are packing too! Might be a bit uncomfortable running and packing, but heck, REAL men gotta pack to maintain their, you know, ahhh, manhood (?)

People too afraid to go outside without a gun should stay home!

In many third world nations people shoot guns in the air to demonstrate celebration. Here we carry our guns to terrorize small children and their families, which effectively dampens the celebration.

I guess all the scared progressives should stay at home tomorrow morning.

Wow just freaking wow. This is what we have to go through to appease scaried cats? Can I bring my protection? Two Rottweilers and a Louisville slugger.

According to dictionary.com, Webster's, et al, bombs are a synonym for "arms."  Why can't I bring a bomb to the race. My 2nd Amendment right to bear arms is being abridged. This needs to be addressed by our General Assembly ASAP. Maybe a special session can be called tonight in time to allow me to bring all my bombs to the race tomorrow. My 2nd Amendment rights supplant any pantywaist, bed-wetting liberal's concern about the danger of bombs in public places.  I am a good guy with a bomb, only I can stop a bad guy with a bomb.

if black men showed up with guns then it would be a shootout , because black men carrying guns frightens whites

How so Jim?

Well, since guns are legal and bombs are not, that makes prefect sense.

It was legal to carry in Piedmont Park before July 1.

How dare they ban fireworks?  I use them as guns, so they should be legal! (okay, I don't really use them as guns.)

More liberal hysterics.

Firecrackers, roman candles, etc. are against the law in Georgia (unlike guns).  Why isn't this blog on a rampage to round up all of the lawbreakers today through the weekend?

@NWGAL The hyperbole is thick tonight. There are no more people now carrying guns in public than there have been ever since the state was founded.

@LegolasMirkwood I wish you anti-gun types would come up with a new analogy, this is the south not the west.

Gunluvr

@AuntieChrist You can bring explosives and machineguns, you just have to have a Class 3 federal license. Why don't you inquire about one since you feel "slighted".

JonLester

@AuntieChrist Context is everything. "Arms" was and has been commonly understood to mean firearms that launch a projectile. It should be obvious that the use of explosive devices crosses into other legal territory.

@lithoniaguy Black men generally don't openly carry their guns. There are more white males openly exercising their civil rights than black males. Nobody besides urban anti-gun white libs are scared of black males anymore. I mean realistically; When is the last time black males were seen openly carrying long guns or any guns? 1960s in California when Ronald Reagan was governor and even then they just had basic pump action shotguns. Plus this new crowd of Black Panther thugs can't hold a candle to the old school ones of the 60s, all they have is loud mouths, no guts to walk the walk with their guns like Bobby Seale and the others.

Well today gun technology has advanced from 50 caliber long rifles to bump fire AR-15s and AK-47s. Black males aren't interested in buying and carrying them even though it's their God given right to. They have other concerns and priorities and it looks like guns just don't matter to them.

@td1234 @NWGAL

tiny dog,

I beg to differ.

I was in the hardware store today and the clown in front of me had one on his waist and one on his sock.

Oddly, I didn't see any threats anywhere (aside from the clown wearing the guns).

To your point, the total number of people I have ever seen in the same location over the last 35 years who were such sniveling chickensh*ts that they had to have guns strapped on them was, well ZERO.

There's your counter proof.

I agree, Gunluvr. This is NOT the "Wild Wild West." this is the Wacky World of Wilted Willies who are too eskeered to leave the house unless they're totin' a piece in plain sight.  I'm a GIRL, and I'm not afraid to go about my daily business without an automatic weapon strapped around me. Geebus, grow a va-jay-jay! Apparently, having "a pair" isn't enough for some of you wussy boys.  Yuck.

@Gunluvr @AuntieChrist Hey us manly militia calvin bundy types don't need no stinkin' class 3 license. This is Amerka, I can have all the arms I want!

AuntieChrist

@JonLester @AuntieChrist  Yes context is very important, like the phrase,

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state....."  Obviously everyone walking around with their little gun showing are members of a 'well regulated militia," aren't they.

Dude, I would LOVE to hear your credentials and qualifications for that "informative" rant. Do you work for the Census Bureau? I don't remember those questions being asked. Oh please, DO enlighten us on how you know sooooooooo much!

@GaBlue @Gunluvr FROM OUR COLD DEAD HANDS!!! See you at Piedmont Park. Haven't decided if I'll bring my AK or just carry my Glock. What do you think?

Gunluvr
Gunluvr

@GaBlue @Gunluvr Personal observation. See if you can find any photos of these "New" Black Panther clowns carrying guns in the public, hmm? More recently standing in front of polling places to scare a certain group away from voting. All they had were scary looks and that's it. Ya'll give domestic terrorists like them too much credit. You'll notice they only pull this **it in gun control havens up north. There would be a serious problem for them in a place like Florida or Georgia. Do you disagree?

@Gunluvr  " Ya'll give domestic terrorists like them too much credit."

I believe it was pox news that gave them too much credit. Sensible sane people laughed at the wrong wing hysteria over it.  It is the scary Black people in Metro ATL (99.99% of them unarmed and going about their business) that prompted the guns everywhere bill in the first place. Black Panthers had nothing to do with it.

"There would be a serious problem for them in a place like Florida or Georgia. Do you disagree?"

No doubt about it. Just ask the parents of Trayvonn Martin and the other Black kid gunned down by a frightened rabbit gun-toting psycho.

Gunluvr

@AuntieChrist No, I'd say the tea leaves were divined with such referred occurrences with that group along with the daily news that emanates from Clayton County.

@Gunluvr They have taken your little gun from your cold dead hands in war?  That's quite a trick posting comments from the afterlife. Do they have Broadband internet there, or are y'all still on AOL dial-up?

Gunluvr

@AuntieChrist @Gunluvr No but on 21 December 1989 at 0200 hours me and 28,000 soldiers jumped into Panama to remove Manuel Noriega. Look it up it's in the history books. One of the candidates(Rob Maness) in the US Senate race in Louisiana flew us down in a C-141 Starlifter. He's running to replace the anti-gun, backstabbing radical Mary Landrieu.

@The_Centrist @Gunluvr You're welcome but now it's a new generation in the military who have to keep things going and should be securing the borders. Most of the ones I served with have retired or got promoted to 0-6 Colonel and above.

I was just looking at photos in the Washington Post showing the newest plebe cadets starting at Annapolis today. Mothers crying and sniveling like they're not gonna see them again. Where does the time go?
