Kasim Reed declares city of Atlanta property to be gun-free

By Jim Galloway

Seventeen hours into Georgia’s new gun law, Mayor Kasim Reed has declared city of Atlanta facilities to be gun-free zones. From the press release:

“As Mayor, I have made public safety the top priority of my administration. Accordingly, in response to a new statewide gun law that took effect today, the City has taken extra security measures to keep employees and citizens safe at our facilities.

“Effective today, City recreation centers with extensive summer programming will be staffed with security officers to screen entrants and prevent firearms from entering the buildings.

With the exception of certain public safety officials and employees, there is no place for firearms in a city facility. Every City of Atlanta government facility that screens the entrance into the facility with security personnel will continue to prohibit firearms.

Furthermore, City of Atlanta employees have all been notified that the new state law does not authorize them to carry firearms while on duty or store weapons in personal vehicles that are parked in secured employee parking lots.

“The proliferation of guns in this country poses a serious threat to public safety. The city is taking common-sense measures to secure our buildings and keep our citizens safe.”

Here is background on the law

Tell the mayor Doctor Davis is coming to collect the money owed to the Atlanta Public Schools, that the city has already collected. He will be armed with a court order. The Mayor should obey the law.

Is he overruling the governor in this instance? Or trying to?

Apparently, as a Democrat, he's not concerned that he's breaking state law. Typical... after all, liberals think they can pick and choose which laws to follow or ignore.

State pre-emption law forbids Reed to do this. Of course, he's an Obama-wannabe, so there you go...

So let me get this straight, on June 30, Mr Reed was OK allowing criminals illegally carrying guns into unsecured city buildings? Now after July 1, he's not OK with law-abiding licensees carrying into these same buildings? Makes perfect sense.

One Question. Where did this "money" come from to protect all these new buildings and added areas??? Increased Taxes? Increased fines?? More tickets?? Layoffs so you can hire more security?? I'm just asking.

Why do gun-nuts make-it sound as if there is someone waiting around every corner in Georgia waiting to shoot them?  If so , will they really have time to pull-out their guns?  I truly believe it is penis deprivation!  But then again, when the nra has morons in control it is a sad state,  Now that you are angry about my last statement, consider this!  After the Boston Marathon bombing the president and/or vice president of the nra made the following comments "please Mr. President, do the right thing and help us get those with mental problems off the street".  With this statement, one of them slapped ronald reagen whom emptied-out the mental hospitals in California sitting a republican trend to other states.  The second asked the following question, "I wonder how many people at the Boston Marathon wished they had a gun" .  IIf someone walks up and places a bomb without anyone knowing, what good does a gun do?  I would think that a group that scares so many elected officials would have some degree of education!

Mayor Reed, I do not have the luxury of a tax payer funded police escort when I go out. I do take very seriously my families safety, so I will continue to carry my weapon and be alert while out in public.

Armed 30+ years and never injured anyone, even on duty. [25+years law enforcement officer]

Hey guys, have you not considered that those 'bad guys with guns' will just hang it on their hip and walk around disguised as 'good guys with guns'? This is the only way any of us can have even a little confidence that we can take our Grandkids out in public and not get caught in the crossfire. If we can't get rid of the guns then, at least, we can try to keep em away from those of us that don't want any part of your 'wild west', macho BS.

And as a person with a concealed carry permit... I'm actually just fine with this.

The intent of the law was to make the various cities and towns live up to their claim of being 'gun free' if they say they are. Until now all they had to do was post a sign.

I have no problem with being disarmed, if I know the bad guys are being disarmed as well. It's no different than walking through the secure area in Hartsfield.

Before this law only the law-abiding would actually disarm in 'gun free zones', while the criminals, being criminals, felt no such compunction.

This law says that municipalities can declare whatever public buildings they want as 'gun free', but they actually have to make sure they really are.

They have to spend the time and effort and money required, not just put up a sign and say 'good enough'.

Bilderberger attendee.  Doesnt that bother anyone? Timing of his invitation shortly after marriage and baby  announcements? People get told to attend Bilderberg they dont get asked to attend.  Those that are told to attend do what they are told because if they don't they risk having whatever the dark secret is that makes them controllable being exposed and their private and public lives destroyed or they suddenly become suicidal or their Mercedes suffers a Boston Brakes type incident.

He did what he was told on the tax issue for road "improvements."  He did what he was told to make the GA Dome project a reality while making certain groups rich while somehow managing to be left in the dark on the Braves moving to Cobb. Do you believe that he was clueless?

Then 17 hours into a new a state law and 3 days before the security apparatus keeps the city safe by creating a police state by "preparing for the worst" at the PTREE Road Race and fireworks at Centennial, Lenox and Turner Field. Every inch of the race will be under video surveillance starting on Wednesday as a reaction to the Boston Marathon theater production and special effects.

Three things to watch/consider and by no means is a reliable predictor for future of events yet they must be understood from a financial point of view to analyze when events occur and a Federal Agency is brought in before, during or after event.  The DOJ asset forfeiture fund shares the recovered funds (insurance, assets, property, cash) with the local and state agencies when there is a JOINT TASK FORCE as an example.  This fund has grown out of control and is at the discretion of the US Atty General.  It is over a billion dollars.  Consider this when FEMA and DHS exercises seems to somehow go live like they did in Boston, Sandy Hook and Aurora to name a few.

1.  Centennial Olympic Park - Location of a previous event in 1996 key policing personnel were promoted after the event to key positions in the APD, airport security and the US Marshall's service. Who own's that property at Centennial Olympic? Who would get paid from insurance claims during a terror event for property or loss of life? What agencies would share and what was there role before during and after the event?

2.  Lenox Mall - They also owned the mall in Aurora when the alleged shooter James Holmes shot the place up on the same day DHS was running a mass shooting drill in Aurora.  Meaningless fact.  The shooter (under govt psyche care and released after a shooting at a mosque in MD)of the man leading prayer group at Creflo Dollars church went, like a homing pigeon, directly to Lenox Mall and sat there quietly until he was apprehended without incident.  Meaningless and unrelated to James Holmes (under the care of a govt univ psychiatrist and part of govt DARPA program) allegedly bringing a whirlwind of death and destruction and then  apprehended outside the building next to a car that was not his and totally incoherent according to the police radio communications? Then after being bent on death and destruction he warned the police his place was rigged with explosives?  2 killers apprehended seemingly incoherent at locations owned by the same consortium. Simon Property Group.  Odd coincidence. Police HQ at the Boston Bombing- Lenox Hotel (Not owned by the same group as the first two unrelated stories)

3. Turner Field - Will be obsolete when Braves move to Cobb County which makes it vulnerable to some kind of destructive event in which the owners of the building and/or property will no doubt have incredible foresight to have signed a financial agreement and insurance policy that will cost very little but will benefit everyone greatly in the event of some highly unlikely action resulting in death and/or destruction that are insured against.  Catastrophe bonds, leveraged lease agreements, etc like those that certain parties were advised to sign by their brilliant attorneys and financial managers like Sidley Austin, Bain, Warren Buffet, Larry Silverstein, Frank Lowy (Westfield Malls - 9/11, Kenya Mall, NJ Mall Collapse and others), Sandy Hook, Murrah Building, plane crashes etc.

These are just a few patterns discovered from a few events but they are relevant to all the major events, major political/military people in powerful positions that are there because they do what they are told and not by WE THE PEOPLE.

Dem Senate Candidate Michelle Nunn is a BUSH CRONY.  Hands On Network merged with Points of Light.  Remember #41 1000 Points of Light.  Sandusky charity was a Point of Light.  Remember Neal Bush and the S & L scandal? Michelle works for him.  Repulicans are backing her.  Her mom was ex CIA foreign office.  Clintons and Bushes are like family.  How did that happen?  Mena AR. My point is that no one ever digs below the surface or asks the right questions.  instead we allow the MEDIA to tell us what we should be talking about.

The fact that Kasim Reed was told to attend the Bilderberg conference is IMPORTANT if you want to admit that or not and it is quite possibly a treasonous act. (Logan Act?)  I like Kasim but the city of Atlanta went from 50 surveillance cams prior to Boston Marathon to something like 1500 last year and now every inch of the race will feed into the VIDEO INTEGRATION CENTER!!   A private/public venture connected with a wireless mesh network.  The school shooter in DeKalb last year was being watched in the school by the Vid Int Center.  IT WAS A DRILL!!!!   This technology that we believe keeps us safe allows the high tech hijacking of those systems and drills go live like the war games on 9/11 went from a 30 hour drill to a live event that has sent the world into an irrational chaos of death and destruction.

People need to consider the possibility that all powerful people no matter what political, economic or military positions they may appear to represent are controlled by the same groups of powerful people and benefit no matter what and that we the people (in every country) are being deceived, robbed and mislead in every aspect of our lives and we are allowing it to happen voluntarily.  Inflation/Deflation, War on/of Terror, No/Every Child Left Behind, TOO BIG TOO FAIL, They hate us for our freedoms so we allow our government to convince us to voluntarily surrender our freedom.

Dem Kasim Reed announces he is getting married and having a kid and then shortly after he is "invited" to Bilderberg. Michelle Nunn is supported by a powerful bush network of international crime families, drug runners and arms dealers and other Republicans. Both will be serving a hidden master that no one ever took the time to question the possible links and the effects of those ties.

Anyone that asks questions, connects dots, points out patterns, or asks others to consider some things the next time a powerful position says or does something that mocks the promise of life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness at a minimum is bashed and labeled a whack job and therefore excluded from the debate.

Well, perhaps residents of the City of Atlanta just can't be trusted with full rights of citizenship. As a mass, that is. Apparently can't handle it responsibly. The Mayor, after all, must think so, given this statement.

Or it could be that the man is just a boiler-plate Democrat. If Kasim Reed is the future, I wish no part of it. At all.

Mayor Reed proves he trusts armed criminals more than licensed armed citizens. Where was all this extra security keeping out criminals BEFORE HB 60 was passed? I guess he didn't bother because criminals obey signs, right? LOL

Also, why only secure rec centers that have "extensive summer programming? What about the others?

Here's the thing, though: If a public building does not fit state law's definition of "government building" with regard to the carrying of weapons, the city has ZERO authority to forbid entrance to licensed firearm carriers, regardless of screening or no screening.

How deep are the Mayor's (or tax-payers) pockets to fund losing lawsuits? Wanna take on Georgia Carry...again?

I predict the Mayor will back down, and just bloviate about how he should have the authority to ignore state law.

@ATL_born Did you read the full article? No shots were fired. No one harmed. One gun owner with a very cool head defused a situation, while still not giving in. An elderly  licensed gun owner got carried away with thinking he needed to illegally demand to see someone's carry permit. He never pointed his gun at the guy, but even drawing it is considered assault and he got arrested. How does that make the new law dumb?

After all, honest people don't have to put  the word in their name, they get the name by living up to their word.

This is why you always hear gun control laws called 'common sense' and 'reasonable'. They are actually neither, but by repeating these words over and over, they hope to convince people they actually are.

@Susan89 If you want to see how well gun free zones keep people safe, look at the number of daily shootings in the City of Chicago.  Gun Free Zones remove the guns from law-abiding citizens leaving nothing but unarmed targets for criminals who care less about Gun Free Zones.

@sp60 @honested @P-Evans Bull. The sponsor to this idiots folly gun bill is a member of Georgia Carry as is Ralston the Speaker of the House. Both Jasperse and Ralston are CARD CARRYING members of Georgia Carry. They were the two main players in pushing this bill through. Do you really think people are so out of touch with the facts you can lie about this? This bill only panders to their buddies in Georgia Carry and does nothing to reduce gun violence. In fact the only thing this law accomplishes is to get simple minded sock puppets to buy into the catchy phrase "I support the 2nd Amendment". It is a fund raising bill but does nothing to keep the citizens safe from gun violence. It instead increases the likelihood of more people becoming victims of gun violence.

@CharlesHendrix @sp60 @honested @P-Evans First lets look at the problem with gun violence stats.  Legal, self-defense shootings where a law-abiding citizen protects themselves with a gun, is included as an act of gun violence.  It is also included in most stats as a homicide.  Therefore you really need to dig deep to get to the truth about gun violence and the number of shootings.

For those that want a case study in what a law abiding citizen can do from a self-defense standpoint, check out the record of Tom Givens's students in Memphis, TN:  64-0.  100% of his students that had a gun were able to defend themselves and/or those with them successfully with that gun.

To all that want to talk about diplomacy and being diplomatic with an someone that has a gun and wishes to do you harm, I say this:  Diplomacy to a criminal with a gun is doing what they tell you do or you get shot.  Diplomacy to me with a gun that faces an attacker with a gun is two to the body and one to head in 1.5 sec.

sp60
sp60

@honested @sp60 @P-Evans Really. Getting this bill through against the full media blitz doesn't count as 'diplomacy'?

It also show how little you understand anything about the rights and responsibilities involved with being an armed citizen.

Tiny dog, I thought they had put you out for the evening.

But hey, when we are discussing 'imaginary friends' why be limited to the terrified goat herder mythology.

If anything in the jesus myth was true, it was a dedication to preventing hostilities and improving cooperation.

Therefore, all jesus would need a gun for would be to stand in for a bell or a gong, and silence the throngs.

In any case, it's a moot point since there is and was no jesus and the superstitious goat herders that told the wild tales that became the bible had no guns (thank Evolution for that).

Jesus said that we were to turn the other cheek if attacked - and if someone wants to steal our coat, we should offer our shirt also.

So, no, Rep Broun, the idea of an armed citizenry isn't from God.  It's from the pit of hell, to coin a phrase.
