A Plains weekend with Jimmy Carter: Just $20,000 per couple

By Greg Bluestein

Jimmy Carter’s involvement in his grandson’s gubernatorial campaign is about to grow. And all the proof you need is this invitation to an expensive but private weekend with the former president and first lady.

A sign that President Jimmy Carter's involvement in his grandson's campaign is growing. The June 7-8 event, on behalf of state Sen. Jason Carter, the Democratic nominee for governor, will require a drive down to Plains, Ga. Here’s what you would get in return:

This private, unique opportunity features a tour of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, dinner and reception with the Carters, tour of the Downtown Inn with Rosalynn Carter, church service with the Carters and a photo with the Carters.

The price tag is $12,600 per person, or $20,000 per couple. We’re told to expect more events building off this fundraiser.

This is not the first time that the elder Carter has helped his grandson’s bid for governor. But it’s a resounding signal that he will be playing a larger role in the campaign, which will help the grandson raise funds and attract Democratic support.

Expect the team of Republican incumbent Nathan Deal to seize on this as well. It could open the door for attacks that tie the younger Carter to his grandfather’s one-term presidential record. Jimmy Carter, for instance, this week announced his opposition to the construction of a new leg of the Keystone pipeline — the only former president to do so.

Update: As expected, Deal’s campaign seized on the news. Deal spokeswoman Jen Talaber said she figured Carter would “continue trading in on his grandfather’s name and raising money from big, liberal donors in Hollywood and New York City.” She then tied the younger Carter to remarks his grandfather made in a recent media tour for a new book.

Said Talaber:

“Last week, Jimmy Carter accused our country of being the world’s “number one warmonger” and made offensive remarks about Republican voters. Every dollar raised by the grandfather wraps the grandson a little tighter in that cloak of extremism. It’s getting harder and harder for the grandson to maintain the sham that he’s a moderate Georgia Democrat.”

That's all we need for Jimmy Carter to get involved in politics again.  After all,. he was such a great President that Obama has tried to emulate him.  I pity for this country.

No one cares what Jimmy Carter thinks; they didn't in the 80's, they didn't in the 90's, not the 2000's and not this decade either.  Ever notice how he is left out of many gatherings of former presidents?

wonder why he was a one term president?  so Jason Carter thinks Jimmy can help get him elected?  I don't think so.  Jimmy, please just fade from the public gracefully and let him run on his own merits, whatever they are....................

Dude should have gotten more involved in the election when he ran 2nd time for president.  Dude is seriously not clued in to what is going on in the world.  That's the reason he lost the presidency.

At least its for an entire weekend.  People pay $50,000 for one sit down dinner with candidates.

Notice how quickly this morning's AJC story on Georgia's falling unemployment rate (under Gov. Nathan Deal) was taken down from the website headlines?

Thanks Mo, I appreciate the info!! I'm just an old retired conservative guy! I support D's, R's,  I's,(black or white)  if they have conservative Christian views!

The Better Half - Excellent post!!!!!!! In a perverse way, I kinda look forward to Hillary getting elected. Image Bill(perv #1) and Anthony Weiner(Clinton's good friend, aka perv #2) roaming the halls of the WH, should be entertaining, to say the least!

It's all about money and inside influence, regardless of the party affiliation - Dem or Rep.  Which is why politics is a total load of crap!  I don't believe much of what ANY politician has to say, whether they have a D or R by their names.  Our governments are filled with politicians and millionaires (along with their entourages) - true leaders are few and far between.

I must have heard the term "low information voter" when I was changing channels from CNN to MSNBC!

MoFaux

Anyone that assigns the term "low information voter" to one particular party, is, in fact, a member of said group.

TomGaff

Kamchak & Charles Hendrix - Actually I did support former Pres J Kennedy who had a D after his name! Remember him, the one who said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"! I will remember those words until it is time for me to take a dirt-nap. You D's have lost your way since then, expecting tax paying, hard working citizens to fund your existence from cradle to grave!

TomGaff
TomGaff

It is really pathetic to hear some of you posters saying you will vote for Jason because of his grandfather Jimmy Carter? But I guess that is what low information voters are all about? Now I understand why you would vote for Hillary, wife of Bill Clinton(aka the perv)! It should be all about JOBS, and keeping taxes low for working Americans! Notice I said working Americans, not moochers/parasites of our taxes! Heck, I would vote for any candidate(white, black, brown) if they could accomplish the jobs/low taxes issue.

@LpV  I was good up until "Obama". Then I realized you are a paid Deal sockpuppet. Padon us while we understand you are paid to type such things.

@GAretailer  Then don't go, Mister Envious. You probably can't afford it anyway.

he was a one term president because of Oliver North, Ronald Reagan and the whole Iran-Contra guns for hostages deal. You must not have been alive back then. Protip: Fox news is not the best source of All Things Carter, yo!

@partlycloudy  Dude, what are you smoking? Not Clued in?  Humanities for Habitat? Nobel Peace Prize?  Guinea Worm Disease eradication program?

He has done more for people this year than you have your entire current existence. Dude... he abides.

TheBetterHalf

People, save your money and give it to a church or charity!  I would not open the door if Jimmy Carter was standing in my back yard, let alone pay big bucks to go to Plains and see him and Rosalynn!  For whatever good he did outside the White House, he is ALWAYS a politician at heart and it's clear that comes first.

@Charles50  Or it could be that the amount for the entire weekend is all a few people are WILLING to pay to be with Carter?

@EdUktr  Unemployment is typically credited or blamed on the Feds. Thanks Obama!

AuntieChrist
AuntieChrist

@EdUktr And you repuupies have been assuring me that Obama is responsible for job creation, or lack thereof. But I guess that only applies for bad unemployment figures. When the figures are good, it is due to the guvner, when they are bad it is due to Obama. Is that how it works?

TomGaff
TomGaff

@EdUktr - You think it has something to do with the AJC's liberalism? Gov Deal will be re-elected despite the AJC's support! Don't think you can get elected just by being someone's grandson? I could be wrong though, a Community Organizer made it happen!

RickDDay
RickDDay

@TomGaff  you judge people by an arbitrary political/religious basis rather than the content of their character? Do you lean towards the Bible being literal, or do you understand that most of the stories are moral tales, that demonstrate generally how we should all get along?

"Are they Jesus Tested?" is not the best way to elect leaders. It seems the more we try to put in moralistic politicians, the more they are tempted and possessed by the Demons in DC. Why would one elect Good Christian Folk™ to be sent to DC Demons? Send some atheists, jews, and mooooooooooslims instead! At least they won't screw around with a daughter age aide while running on Christian Family Values™.

I'll pray that you stay home on polling day.

AuntieChrist

@TomGaff Won't be near as interesting as david vitter's, john ensign's, newt's, mark foley's, larry craig's and the latest LA congress critter's perversions, all of whom are good "family values, Amerkin values" repuppies.

@TomGaff  Would you believe me if I told you that that cradle to grave thing is a lie your politicians made up to scare you into voting for them?

After all, if you believe bible stories...

CharlesHendrix
CharlesHendrix

@TomGaff  Definitely a low information voter and poster.  You can tell all about a person and what they have done in life from a paragraph they post on a blog? Pretty amazing. It shows you are judgmental, based in delusions of grandeur. You want to believe you are better than others, but know you are and always will be, forever, a lost soul. Your problem is evident. Your head is to big and empty. I spent over 22 years of my life wearing a uniform of the U.S. Army protecting your right to remain ignorant and uninformed. If anybody owes a debt to somebody else you owe me.

Kamchak

Actually I did support former Pres J Kennedy...

Actually, I had a threesome with Catrinel Menghia and Barbara Palvin last night.

@TomGaff"It is really pathetic to hear some of you posters saying you will vote for Jason because of his grandfather Jimmy Carter?"

That's funny, I've read all the comments and have yet to see any that say they are voting for Carter for that reason. Make stuff up often?

CharlesHendrix
CharlesHendrix

@TomGaff  right, but not near as pathetic as the clowns that votes for other clowns simply because they have an (R) in front of their name.  Now there is your low information voter.  Backing a former president's kin makes more sense to a person with more than 100 functional brain cells.

Kamchak

Heck, I would vote for any candidate(white, black, brown) if they could accomplish the jobs/low taxes issue.

Not intended to be a factual statement.

@CharlesHendrix @TomGaff Since you shared with me, I'll share with you.I spend four years in USAF(including voluntary tour in Vietnam). After over 30 yrs in law enforcement), I am now retired. No, I do not owe you any thing! Yes. I have conservative views, work for what you wish to obtain in life and do not expect Govt(tax paying citizens) to support your existence from cradle to grave!! If your govt can give you a helping hand fine, just not expect to establish a Way OF Life!!

TomGaff
TomGaff

@Kamchak Who is Catrinel and Barbara(that you mentioned)? Are they women, if so could you attach picture, kinda new to this posting thing!

TomGaff

@Kamchak - I really did, as one former military guy to another, John Kennedy and I, had that in common. I could have put a bullet into the head of his killer very easily!!!!!!!!!!!

@AuntieChrist @TomGaff Actually Charles Hendrix pretty much said just that, posted right above this comment. Charles seems very knowledgeable to me.

Charles50

@AuntieChrist @TomGaff  They must read it in their dream state or hear it on some faux Faux Next station.  Like you I have YET to hear or see anyone say that is the reason they are planning to vote for Carter. And if some do, why is it any different than the people who simply vote straight party line without giving any consideration to the opponents?  I'm really tired of the Repugs trying to run everyone else's lives.

TheBetterHalf

Whatever..... you're kind of cracking me up here.  Good deeds are one thing and politics is another.

@Kamchak Ol' mark slipped my mind, forgot all about him. Didn't read the article, but I saw a headline the other day that he is back skulking around and stalking his ex-wife again. Guess he, like most cons, don't think that laws apply to them.

...and vitter, newt, and the LA rep aren't?

Yep, along with Mark "Appalachian Trail" Sanford.

AuntieChrist

@TomGaff  and vitter, newt, and the LA rep aren't? And the only reason ensign and craig aren't "still in the game" is because they were too sleazy even for a repup to stomach.

@TomGaff @AnsweredTHIS @AuntieChrist  Barrack has achieved one of the highest goals a child could imagine.

@TomGaff @AuntieChrist @MoFaux  In the proper context it certainly does not bother me.

@AnsweredTHIS @TomGaff@AuntieChrist Thanks you may be right? She's probably a Harvard grad like her hero, which would mean I'm totally out-gunned! Is her hero Barrack Obama, or is it Bill OReilly, both are Harvard grad's?

@AuntieChrist You may be right(I know you hated me referring to you as right) but maybe I have only one coat? Maybe I can help with a meal but do do wish to pay for their mortgage, car or lottery tickets?

AuntieChrist

@TomGaff @AuntieChrist@MoFaux Good to see you figured out the "Reply Button" in just under an hour.

As for "moochers/parasites" I do seem to remember Jesus Christ using those exact words, when He said, "if you have two coats, give one to a moocher," and "Blessed are the parasites,"  You said in a comment above that you vote for Christian principled candidates, so please correct me if I quoted Jesus incorrectly, you being a good christian and all.

TomGaff
TomGaff

@AuntieChrist @MoFaux@TomGaff- Excellent post Auntie, brought a smile to my face. What about the words moocher/parasite, does that bother you. It is more than one syllable?

TomGaff
TomGaff

@AuntieChrist @CharlesHendrix@TomGaff - I lived in barracks, 4 yrs and out, no pension or benefits. Paid well, sorry not likely! But was a good way to start life between 17 -20 yrs of age! Good life experience!

Of course you did, just like Candice Swanepoel really did join Catrinel, Barbara and me in the hot tub.

Actually Charles Hendrix pretty much said just that, posted right above this comment.
