David Pennington to make ‘major campaign announcement’

By Greg Bluestein

Former Dalton Mayor David Pennington, who is challenging Gov. Nathan Deal on the right, plans a “major campaign announcement” on Wednesday at the statehouse.

His campaign isn’t talking but we’re told the tea party candidate won’t be dropping out of the race. Instead, we suspect it will have something to do with the ethics issues that have troubled Deal’s campaign.

From the release:

ATLANTA, GA – David Pennington, the only Conservative running for Governor of Georgia, will be making a major campaign announcement outside of the Governor’s Office at the State Capitol tomorrow.

This comes on the heels of the recent court ruling regarding Nathan Deal’s near constant ethics scandals over campaign funds and private, personal business dealings.

Curious Prime, what I meant was that while Pennington has always been fiscally conservative, socially he has been to the right of center, but not extreme right.  He has only moved to the extreme far right socially as he has become more desperate.

And, yes, Retired Soldier, one can be a conservative and not be crazy.

just think.  Next week, whatever Pennington says about Deal will be blamed on the Democrats slinging mud and name calling in the liberal media.

As a former supporter of Pennington, I can tell you that he has not always been to the right of John Birch politically.  He has always been a strong fiscal conservative, but his other views have not been extreme.  He is taking extreme views because he is desperate and is trying to appeal to the Tea Party crazies.  What a shame because he has a lot to offer.  I will now be voting for Barge who is an honest, ethical conservative.  Pennington is not a lawyer so can he still run for Attorney General?

Maybe pennington will do something bold, like refuse to accept any more donations from anyone who has profited by violating immigration laws!

My guess is pennington will announce that Jawja dairy farmers will be allowed to graze their herds on the Capitol grounds, protected of course by armed 'militia' who will ensure that deal and state guvment officials don't interfere with their 'rights' to use public land for their own enrichment.

Of course this will in no way prevent guvment officials from arresting Moral Monday protestors for their crime of sitting peacefully in protest at the Capitol. After all, rights are reserved only for teatards, no others need apply. Moral Monday protestors are a bunch of moochers who want their fellow citizens to receive proper medical care and get enough to eat, while teatards stand up to the guvment to make sure cows are taken care of, and get enough to eat

Pennington is the only man I've seen that can make the Tea Party look rational. He is so far right, even the Tin Foil Hat crowd starts to look normal.

Desperation tactic.  He (and Barge) were last seen in single digit polling, WAY behind in campaign funds that will start meaning a lot in May, and low in name recognition - all factors as to why Deal has the nomination wrapped up.

Pennington risks losing a shot in 4 years against Attorney General Sam Olens if he gets too aggressive in his 2014 desperation attempts.

When you're barely making a "blip" in the polls, you do like Obama does---start slinging accusations and innuendos that the other guy cannot be trusted.

....this is much ado about nothing that Galloway is attempting to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Galloway's blue Marxist/Communist/Socialist/democRat stripes are ALWAYS on full display!

@petel  You can count an honest, ethical conservative on one finger.  Saying that someone is not always" to the right of John Birch is not exactly a glowing endorsement.

@petel Congratulations you are the first to use Barge and conservative in the same sentence.

I hate to admit it, just 'cause of td's constant harassment, but I plan to vote for Barge in the primary too  - just to see what happens.  I'm from a family of teachers - anyone who will put more emphasis on education needs in this state deserves a shot.

@SmartAleck

When has President Obama slung around accusations and innuendos?

Also, you really need to study or state that you are being sarcastic.  One can not be a communist and a socialist simultaneously.  And, whether you are willing to admit it or not, most people tend to hold marxist views...and for good reason: marxism offers an solid explanation for the path of economic history.

Strictly speaking, if you believe that the wealthy have an unfair advantage in politics or economics then you hold some marxist beliefs.  if you believe the victors write the history books, then you hold some marxist beliefs. If you believe that some wealthy people aspire to organize society in a way that allows them to exploit those in the lower classes, then you hold some marxist beliefs.  If you believe that wealthy interests work to insulate themselves from the consequences of economic failure, then you hold some marxist beliefs.

Now, some of these are so much beliefs anymore. Democracy has given the People the opportunity to look into these things and, as it turns out, all of those statements I listed above are facts whether you are willing to believe them or not.

Therein lies the issue with conservative thought: you deal in absolutes.  Like the Sith.

Uhh, sorry no.

Galloway didn't write this - and it's really weird how you whine so much about the liberal blog, Smart-Centrist-Aleck, even when they're reporting news about your candidates.

@The-Centrist  Many of us know that you are the original screen name thief.  Remember when you stole it more than three years ago from TheCentrist.  That person asked questions and presented facts particularly about the budget.  Like you could eliminate all discretionary spending and 50% of the military budget and you still wouldn't have a balanced budget?  Or why conservatives laughed when Al Gore wanted to put social security and medicare in a lockbox to keep the GOP from raiding it, pretending it was a part of the general fund...Like they have done?

Not working - you/ NWGAL are sock puppet screen names on top of the subterfuge of imitating my screen name.  Your fellow liberal posters might go along with this, but it only shows their lack of character and scruples as well as yours.  It's one thing to debate politics, but another to cheat and accept cheaters.

Some folks obsession with President Obama is amazing. Regardless of what happens in the news, his name always comes up even if he has NOTHING to do with it. I'm beginning to sense a "bro-mance" from some of these tea-tards.

@Baumer_1  And, I would add, that the oligarchs in this country are doing exactly what Marx said they would do, which is eventually eliminate the consumer, thereby ensuring the failure of capitalism. According to Marx, the capitalists, in their greed for more and more wealth, will deny the worker a livable wage, thus the worker can never become a consumer, and eventually the capitalist has no market for her products, the business fails, and a domino effect of business failures eventually leads to capitalism's demise.

This country's greatest period of prosperity was the 20th century, when government and labor unions created a strong, viable middle class with disposable income to buy the products created by American workers. With the advent of raygun's 'trickle down,' union busting, and no tax on the richest philosophy, wages have stagnated, and the manufacturing base that provided jobs for the middle class has disappeared, as moguls were rewarded with tax breaks while sending these jobs overseas. Of course labor unions are blamed for the failures of the auto and other manufacturing industries, not the executives who cut corners, designed shoddy products, based their business models on the breakdown and obsolescence of the shoddy products and nurtured a "screw 'em" customer service model. No, it was the 'greed' of union workers desiring a livable wage and safe working conditions, and government's protection of the environment that has caused America's manufacturers to disappear.

Republicans have a marked tendency to accuse others of their own flaws and failings.. It's rather like a Republican Congresswoman insisting that Republicans have done so much to improve the lives of women and Democrats are the ones trying to thwart women. Fabricating charges and pretending to be something they aren't.

Ever notice, Mr. Centrist, that literally no one cares what you think?  And it's not because of your views.. at least for me... it's because you're a plagiarist.  You copy other people's work and claim it as your own.  In other words, you're a thief.  You're no different than the kid who knocks over a QuikTrip for some cigs.  Or Nathan Deal, stealing from the taxpayers of Georgia.

Cowboy up.  Express your views,  But then, have the cojones to defend them.  And for crying out loud, stop lecturing others about 'scruples' when you have none of your own.

@The_Centrist That is the most unhinged comment I've read here in a while, and that is some kind of accomplishment given his obsession with Jim Galloway, the AJC and other librul media boogey men he believes lurk around every bush and tree.

The-Centrist, please continue posting at every opportunity so as to provide us with the entertainment of seeing this troll become even more unhinged. It will be like watching Norman Bates devolve into a mass of paranoia and neuroses, without having to rent "Psycho" on DVD.
