Medicaid protestors ejected from Senate gallery

By Jim Galloway

Lori Geary of Channel 2 Action News just sent us this clip of Moral Monday protesters being ejected from the Senate gallery a few minutes ago, after a loud protest over Medicaid expansion:

From our AJC colleague Chris Joyner:

Capitol police removed at least a dozen people from the Georgia Senate gallery Tuesday morning after they began a staggered wave of protests urging Gov. Nathan Deal to reverse his course on expanding Medicaid.

The protests are part of Moral Monday, a coalition of liberal groups who have staged similar displays throughout the legislative session, which wraps up this week.

“Our lives matter,” one group chanted. “Medicaid expansion.”

The protesters — all senior citizens — were quickly handcuffed and hauled out of the Capitol by Georgia State Troopers and Capitol police. The protests disrupted the Senate floor action for about 15 minutes.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before. This is crazy,” said Patrice Bass, a Hampton resident who was visiting the Capitol for the first time and was in the Senate gallery when the protest began.

Megan Harrison, a member of the Moral Mondays steering committee, estimated between 15-20 volunteers were arrested and included several clergy members. Harrison said Deal is playing with people’s lives by rejecting an expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

“Gov. Deal is making a rhetorical, political point,” Harrison said.

Vote into public service a Democratic governor of Georgia and Democratic legislators in Georgia's General Assembly to see the ACA become accepted in Georgia, including the expansion of Medicaid.  That is the only way that this acceptance will happen in Georgia.

I agree with Megan Harrison's words, above.

I'm an old white man and I will vote against these stupid Republicans at every opportunity.

And it was only yesterday that tinydog1234 assured us that every old white person in the state will vote repuppy in the November election, as a protest against Obamacare.  But I'm sure these protesters will see the error of their ways, and turn out to vote for the repups.

Doesn't it just warm your heart seeing senior citizens being hauled away in handcuffs - NOT.  Deal you better watch out.

Finally - some white taxpayers finally realizing what a terrible mistake has been made in not Expanding Medicaid already.  The only people still opposed are those who don't pay taxes but should.  650,000 voters without health insurance definitely in favor.  Millions who are going to be forced to pay excessive unnecessary taxes also in favor.  Anybody think we've got a majority?  Jason Carter in November.

Why isn't the Three Strikes and You're Out law being applied to these agitators and their organizers?

Those arrested were ALL Seniors....Seniors are NOT Your Typically Political Activist. There is a Godly Spirit guiding these Seniors into Action and to SPEAK OUT more forcefully against The Worker's Of Inquity, who perform their EVIL Works within the Walls of The Gold Dome. This Obstinate Stand on Medicaid Expansion will be a costly Political stand for many current Office Holders. Not too far in the Future, when they are No Longer in POWER,  ALL who stood by this stance will realize the Folly of their Thinking and will regret such a PRIDEFUL and ARROGORANT stand against The Poor & Needy Of Georgia.

Man's History is Full of such Examples For All to See....

They are getting the attention of the liberal media - which, of course, is their real intention.

At least we won't be seeing their posts here until they make bail.

It's my entitlement and I want it NOW!  Oh and BTW, YOU get to pay for it, not me.

@MaryElizabethSings

Then watch the 30-40% of the population that works, pays taxes and isn't on public assistance get the hell out of this state as quick as they can.  Not to mention no business owner in his right mind would come to this state.

@EliasDenny

Fortunately for Georgia, your vote and others like it won't add up to victory for Georgia Democrats in November.

Again.

Because Civil Disobedience is protected by the same Constitution that lets you fearfully carry your little popgun everywhere you go.

@EdUktr Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

I guess you were confusing the US Constitution with the game of baseball. Don't feel bad, a lot of ignorant people do that.

Since when are seniors not active in politics?  Ever heard of AARP?  Guess how many millions AARP donates on the behalf of their seniors donate per year to keep the entitlements flowing?

uh..huh

Yep, it's not like they were the parasites paying off their legislators to protect subsidized beachfront insurance.

Yo genius.

You already 'pay for it', only you pay more than you would with a civilized system like Medicaid.

Are you really so dense that you would rather pay more to meet some 'punishment quota'?

You are wrong, but I do not care to debate you on this because I have learned that people with opinions as extreme as yours never change their minds whatever others may present.  I will disclose, however, that I, myself, worked for 42 years, 35 of which I served the people of Georgia as a public school teacher.

NOT! Peacefully to assemble! That does not mean causing disturbances, blocking street, preventing access to buildings, and, running your lame mouths spouting lunatic liberal agenda b.s.!

And no, MINE, PROTECTED BY THE SECOND AMENDMENT THAT THESE LIBERALS AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO REVOKE, IS NOT A LITTLE POP GUN!!!!!!

@honested @EdUktr  The Constitution is only relevant if you wear little hats with tea bags hanging on, and are packing heat. The rest of us aren't accorded any rights.

@Andy123 @Bernie31 From the link:

Xerox reportedly tried to assign Basich's bills to another insurance plan, but that plan is refusing to accept them. Basich's insurance broker also complained that Xerox is spending a lot of time lawyering up and documenting all of Basich's communications.

"I believe Xerox is covering themselves because of a huge system error," broker Tamar Burch told the paper.

So now Obama will be blamed for Xerox's screw ups.  "Honey, the copier is jammed again, call the President and register a complaint. And call sean hannity too, he'll want to get this on tonight's program."

Same document genius and it includes both considerations.

Redress of grievances doesn't mean 'sit quietly and don't bother these a'holes while they pick your pocket'.

@EdUktr @AuntieChrist No, but I have read all the comments from conservatives on here. It hasn't made me an authority on ignorance, but it has provided me with some sterling examples of it.

Where do you think the money currently comes from?

Don't you get that it drives up premiums, hospital costs, physician costs all from uncollected bills?

If not, you might want to EDUCATE YOURSELF before taking a knee-jerk, wrong-wing position that costs EVERYONE.
