Paul Broun not-so-shockingly backs President Obama’s impeachment

By Daniel Malloy

At a tea party-infused Gilmer County GOP forum in Ellijay on Saturday, one of the questions to the five U.S. Senate candidates in attendance was: “Obama has perjured himself on multiple occasions. Would you support impeachment if presented with a vote?”

Rep. Paul Broun, Eugene Yu and Derrick Grayson all raised their hands. Karen Handel and Art Gardner did not.

This reporter made note of the tally but didn’t think too much of it. Of course Broun, who said the president only upholds the Soviet constitution and crowed about being the first one to call him a socialist, would want Obama impeached.

But national media outlets have jumped on it today, from the liberal Talking Points Memo (which produced the video above) to the conservative Daily Caller to ABC News to the Huffington Post.

Consider it a reminder of how the national press views this GOP primary.

Impeach him already! America doesn't need a dictator!

Where can I sign to add vote to that impeachment list?

Liberals need to register as Republicans and then vote in the primary - choose the most idiotic of the idiots available so it will be easier to defeat them in the general election.

"“Obama has perjured himself on multiple occasions. Would you support impeachment if presented with a vote?”"

Don't you actually have to be on trial to perjure yourself? Did I miss the Obama trial?

By the way, our Insurance Commissioner, Ralph Hudgins, is cut from the same cloth.  He says if you have a pre-existing condition, like cancer or diabetes or heart trouble or Parkinson's, etc., it's your own fault, and, of course, you should not be able to get insurance. This wacko made this statement at a recent meeting of a GOP women's group in Columbia County.  Of course, now he's trying to back away from the statement, but how many of us really believe that that is not his true feeling?  Why do we keep electing these clowns to office?  Surely the GOP can do better.

It's scary that Broun graduated from medical school.  He is a complete Neanderthal who would make GA more of a laughingstock than we already are if elected Senator.  He was admonished for practicing medicine without a  renewed license and is not licensed to practice medicine in any hospital in GA.  By the way, it's not an impeachable offense if you disagree with a duly elected President's policies  That's what elections are about. Gingey isn't much better.  Why is it that the 2 doctors are the biggest idiots running?  Let's hope at some point the business community and Chamber of Commerce step in and take a stand.  These 2 nuts would be devastating for out economy.

yet again the crazies are doubling down on the crazy to pander to their constituents...all the while providing vast amounts of amusement for the rest of the people

Those idiots don't even know the definition of perjury. Perhaps they should sign up for some classes at that Christian Academy.

I am shocked -- shocked that such sentiments would emerge from a gaggle of the Grumpy Old People gathered at a "christian academy" to audition three political pygmies, and Louis Gohmert and Sarah Palin impersonators for the new Fox show, "Trashing with the Trash".

Hopefully they have more forums like this. It is important to show the people of Georgia how much knowledge and common sense these candidates have. This should keep the country laughing as they have laughed at the recent 2-inch snow storm.

Remember the last group to tote impeachment papers to the Senate? Bob Barr, Newt Gingrich, and Dennis Hastert were a few I recollect. The president wasn't impeached; and, what ever happened to these 3 fellows?. Publisher of a porn magazine had  congressional leadership investigated, and, most of the leaders of the impeachment had a few skeletons in their closets. Quite a few lost their seats. Be careful of stirring up a hornets nest. Unless you are like Caesar's wife. Very few politicians are above reproach.

broun is just advocating for another means of obstructing the efficient operation of the government, so they can convince their Erewhon voters that the system is broken. Filibustering every bill, fillbustering every appointment, 'investigations' that uncover nothing, voting on the ACA 42 times, shutting down the government, threatening default, hell why not waste some time on articles of impeachment.

There are no legal grounds to impeach the president. Those who called for Bush's impeachment are of the same ilk. If the press ignored this sort of tripe we'd all be better off.

Impeaching Obama would be a little different than Nixon's. Nixon pilfered some political information concerning Democratic opponents.  Obama pilfered some information concerning Germany's leader along with leaders of all nations.

Good for Broun.

His opponents better watch out when he starts airing his campaign commercial which will depict him riding a T-Rex down 316 towards Atlanta.

I can't wait.

The imperial viceroy (aka, sergeant schultz) crossed the "high crimes and misdemeanors" threshold a long time ago.  Of course he should be impeached.

Consider it a reminder of how low IQ the average Georgia voter is to elect a Neanderthal like Broun.

Congressman Paul Broun should just stop flapping his Gums and DO IT!  Go ahead and FILE the Articles of IMPEACHMENT.......I DARE YOU!  I Double DOG Dare you to do it!

As to whether or not the current Chief Executive should be impeached I have no real opinion (it's impractical, at any rate, essentially impossible), but as to whether or not there would have been a clear clarion call to so attempt in the early Republic (Founding to Lincoln, but esp. before Jackson), or in England after 1688 (if Mr. Obama had been a King's minister or King), I feel I am on fairly safe historical ground in saying the answer is "yes", there would have been a real effort made (though I am by no means an expert in either period). I leave it to an obviously more learned man in Mr. Malloy to look into why this might be the case, had today's President tried some of the same procedural things back then he is doing today (ignoring ethnicity of Mr. Obama for the moment, for he wouldn't have been elected, thus not impeachable).

I do not know if such a historical hypothetical impeachment effort of the time-traveling Obama would have succeeded in the eras I mention (my guess is it would have, most especially. in England) just that I think it would have been a very mainstream clamor of power and force.

Paul is stupid on this one because there is no way the Democrats will ever allow Obama to be convicted or removed. They know if they did then Blacks would abandon their party forever.

How did Obama perjure himself?  Is he going to be impeached because he said if you like you health plan and doctor you can keep it?

Galloway you are such a hypocrite.  If George Bush was doing half the things Obama is doing you would demand his head on a platter.  Now, go play in the street.

Let US put Paul Broun's Impeachment concerns in perspective.  Does Not Doctor Paul Broun know that a Sizable Number of The People of Georgia want Paul Broun IMPEACHED from Congress? Does Not Paul Broun know, he is NOT Wanted in the U.S. Senate as the Next junior Senator from Georgia?

So much for IMPEACHEMENT Talk. Time for Dr.Broun to restart his Medical Practice for Medicare & Medicaid Patients who will mostly like be his sole Patient Load upon returning. Old People & Poor People. The (2) Two Very Groups of Americans Doctor Paul Broun Truly Despises.

Dr. Broun's KARMA is Fast approaching a very important Meeting. A Meeting with Paul Broun,MD.

These people appear to the majority to be psychotic although I know they are attempting to recruit voters from an uneducated base.  Michelle Nunn is sane, concerned for the United States, and appears to have a firm grasp on current economic issues.

What good would Impeaching Obama do?  About as much good as impeaching Clinton did? Republicans really got a lot out of that didn't they?  Clinton left office with a 60% plus approval rating and to this day is the most popular former president out there.

Until someone publishes a list of the names of the 67 Senators who would vote to convict Obama, Impeachment is about as dumb an idea that has come along  since the Clinton Impeachment.

Obama is probably thinking "Go ahead, make my day!"

@CuriousPrime - Yes, for me at least, I think Broun and Handel are far right extremists and I would much prefer Michelle Nunn over either of them.

Hard for me to know if Michelle Nunn is moderate or hard left since she has no political experience.  I know her party and closeness to the Obama's which are far left wing, but that she will at least run as if a moderate.  She will have to campaign and debate after the May primaries, and voters will have a better view of her than just the liberal media puff pieces.

CuriousPrime

As I read this blog entry, it says "national media outlets," not "national press. Someone, please contact the Daily Caller and inform them that they are a part of the "liberal media."  Now, Messers Broun, Yu and Grayson, please submit how Obama has committed perjury to Speaker Boehner for him to immediately start impeachment proceedings.  The GOP controlls the House and can do it at any time.

AuntieChrist

@HarveyPooka Another well-informed repuppy voter speaks. Newflash harvey, impeachment proceedings aren't a referendum where you 'add vote to that impeachment list.'

AuntieChrist

@Numbers_R_Us Wouldn't do them any good, they're too busy thumping their bible to actually read it, like the part that says, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor," you know, making false claims of a crime being committed, when no such crime has been committed.

AuntieChrist

@Jack_Republican So you're accusing Obama of authorizing a break in of Angela Merkel's office, then engaging in criminal conspiracy to cover it up?  Do you have any proof of this? Or are you just satisfied to make incredibly stupid comments?  Are you insinuating that monitoring conversations of foreign leaders is illegal? If so, then every CIA employee for the last 50 years will be indicted.

@NWGAL  Where are the sane Democrats in this state? Carter can not win the governorship in November but how many will refuse to see this fact and still not crossover for change in the primary on May 20th to remove Deal?

@td1234 First, wouldn't the President have to commit "High Crimes and Misdemeanors"?

Somehow, I don't think being a burr in the saddle to the knuckle-dragger crowd qualifies.

@BocaBaby  Half the policies Obama has been following which are stupid were inherited from Bush. And ACA was Mitt's baby.

@The_Centrist  Obama is far left wing because he enacted a health care program concocted by a Conservative think tank? By world standards (as opposed to wing nut standards), Obama is a moderate, on some policies slightly to the left, on others slightly to the right.

GB101

@honested @td1234  Does it bother you - just a little bit - when the president does things the constitution does not give him the authority to do?  Creating laws (the mini DREAM act) and ignoring laws (all the actions that in effect repeal parts of the ACA) are not things the president is supposed to do.

You may favor the things being done, but perhaps you should consider the consequences of this usurpation.  The next president may start taking actions you don't like.  The rule of law is being undermined and the country will pay a price.

NorthAtlanta

@lvg @NorthAtlanta  Thanks for your reply and your honesty.  Now I'll be honest.  I'm no Broun fan either.  Sort of the same situation that caused me to vote for Roy Barnes instead of Guy Milner.

@PSWallace - Exactly...and where was Your OUTRAGE when George was Playing King of America? This President has issued far LESS Executive Privilege Decisions than George W. Bush entire (8) eight Years in office.

What about The Patriot Act? The Gutting of the 4th Amendment while America slept on a Late Sunday Night in October,2001.

@td1234 @Eustis While I haven't seen Barge's plan to bring down the cost of Medicaid to the taxpayers, I can tell you a lot of bang for the buck would be to increase efforts in the Medicaid fraud area.  This has always been a problem and it would appear unless the fraud approaches an extremely high dollar threshold, nothing is done.  What about all of the doctors and recipients who don't meet that high dollar threshold continuing to defraud the state?  Parlayed across the state that is A LOT OF MONEY and it is ongoing.

NWGAL
NWGAL

Dr Barge may well be the better candidate but Republicans these days have a nasty habit of becoming more partisan once in office in a red state. They understandably want to be re elected. The base has become so far right. I appreciate your support for a man you believe in but I actually have people to vote FOR, Carter and Nunn, and will be thrilled to do so.

td1234
td1234

@Eustis  Is that not enough since it is the primary function of state government? He also believes in having a totally independent ethics commission and today just laid out a way to help bring down the cost to the taxpayers for Medicaid.

AuntieChrist

@GB101 @honested@td1234 Please cite examples of the POTUS doing things the Constitution does not give him the authority to do. If you are referring to Executive Orders (which BTW, Obama has issued fewer of than any POTUS since G. Cleveland), that is fully within his Constitutional authority. You may be interested to know that the Emancipation Proclamation was an Executive Order, not a bill coming out of Congress.

No POTUS has the authority to unilaterally declare war on another country, Constitutionally that is the purview of Congress, but cons have yet to object to invasions of foreign nations, carried out by Executive decrees.

You repuppies with your selective outrage are becoming very tiresome.
